Basil Rathbone (13 June 1892 – 21 July 1967) was an English actor who appeared in over 70 films throughout his career, primarily in the 1930s and 1940s. He is perhaps best known for his roles in classic Hollywood productions such as The Adventures of Robin Hood, The Mark of Zorro, and The Hound of the Baskervilles. He often played the leading man or the hero of the story, and he is widely regarded as one of the best actors to portray the character of Sherlock Holmes on screen. In addition to his film work, he was also a successful stage actor and appeared in several Broadway productions. He passed away in 1967 at the age of 75.
