Charles Laughton (1 July 1899 – 15 December 1962) was an English actor, director, and producer who had a distinguished career in Hollywood and on the stage. He is perhaps best known for his roles in classic films such as The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Mutiny on the Bounty, and Witness for the Prosecution. He was known for his distinctive voice, physical presence, and versatility as an actor. In addition to his acting work, he directed several films, including The Night of the Hunter, and was a respected stage actor, appearing in several successful Broadway productions. He was awarded an Honorary Academy Award in 1957 for his distinguished career.
