Conrad Veidt (22 January 1893 – 3 April 1943) was a German actor who had a successful career in both German and American cinema during the 1910s through the 1940s. He is perhaps best known for his roles in classic Hollywood productions such as Casablanca, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, and The Thief of Bagdad. He often played the villain or the sinister character, and his performances were praised for their intensity and depth. He was a pioneer of German Expressionist cinema and is considered to be one of the most influential actors of his time. He passed away in 1943 at the age of 50.
